Early Life

Recea Marin was born in Berlin, Germany, to Charles Marin, a Black American DJ originally from Washington, D.C., and Adja Marin, a Senegalese-German former model turned contemporary art gallerist. Her father, Charles, first visited Berlin while serving in the U.S. military and returned after his service to establish himself as a prominent figure in Berlin’s underground music scene. Her mother, Adja, enjoyed quiet success as a runway and editorial model across Europe in the 1990s before opening her art gallery in Berlin, introducing Recea to the intersections of visual art, fashion, and culture from an early age. Recea spent her youth immersed in her parents’ creative circles, forming the foundation of her own multidisciplinary artistry, which spans music, visual expression, and fashion. At age 17, Recea gained early recognition by winning the prestigious Berlin Youth Sound Prize, a competition dedicated to emerging experimental musicians. Her submission, titled "Echo Chamber," was a layered vocal-and-synth composition that blended ambient textures with haunting melodies, earning praise from Berlin’s underground music scene. The victory solidified her confidence as a young artist and introduced her work to influential curators, producers, and fellow artists, setting the foundation for her distinctive career.

Current

In recent years, Recea Marin has transitioned from Berlin’s underground music and art scene into broader international visibility, particularly within the United States. Her artistic breakthrough occurred in 2023, when she was commissioned by New York’s prestigious MoMA PS1 for an immersive installation titled "a room with no corners." This ephemeral, two-night event combined performance, visual art, and experimental sound, and was praised by critics and attendees alike for its emotional depth and innovative approach to audience interaction.

Following this high-profile event, Recea settled partially in New York, expanding her audience through collaborations with notable artists such as Kelela and fashion icon Marc Jacobs, who invited her to score his Fall 2025 runway show. Her debut EP, heatless (2025), further established her reputation, garnering acclaim for its distinctive blend of electronic minimalism, R&B influences, and atmospheric soundscapes. Currently, Recea continues to push boundaries through multidisciplinary collaborations, fashion projects, and selective performances, positioning herself firmly as one of music and art’s quietly powerful new voices.
